Dearest gentle reader….
If you’re a Bridgerton fan, you will know I’m referencing the famous Lady Whistledown. I finished the last episode at the weekend and her character development throughout the series is something I’ve truly resonated with.
This newsletter will take a slightly different approach but one, I feel you might resonate with too.
SPOLIERS:
Penople Feartherington, now revealed to the ton as Lady Whistledown, hid in the shadows for most of her life.
Going unnoticed by the ton and blending into the crowd, writing gave her an escape from her reality.
Penelope held this extreme power with many anticipating every week for Lady Whistledown’s newest article. Penelope had this fascinating skill of being able to observe people and understand them to the smallest detail.
She made people feel seen through her writing.
In the last episode, Penelope expressed her awe of the ton, how people could live so freely as themselves in the open for everyone to see, no matter their flaws.
In Bridgerton’s society, women were born to find a husband and build a family, to then disappear from society to look after the children.
After being found out and forced to pay 20,000 euro or be revealed to the ton, Penelope didn’t succumb to the blackmail.
Instead, she chose to reveal herself, her true self.
Despite the potential of losing everything, she knew who she was.
Lady Whistledown was her alter ego
but it was always her.
She finally took the plunge to reveal her true authentic self.
And guess what?
She was accepted, congratulated, and allowed to continue writing for the ton.
I resonate with Penelope’s character development because for a lot of my life, I felt like an outsider.
That blending in was easier than to stand out.
I couldn’t be further from the truth.
The more you try to blend in, the more life doesn’t feel like yours.
I’ve been told many times I was too much, to quiet down, no one likes the loud ones.
These comments, done harmlessly or in hatred, leave an impact on a person.
A negative belief that becomes your reality that your true self should be hidden.
Like Penelope, creating content is a creative outlet for me.
But the limiting beliefs of comparison, not being good enough, and thinking that my passion could never become my career got the better of me.
But I’ve realized that for me to build a business that I’m proud of, I had to get rid of these limiting blockages that held me back.
For a while, like Penelope, I was lost and unsure about what I was doing but you always find your way back to yourself.
Through Penelopes character development, I saw myself in her in how she grew into who she was to her core and proudly stated “I am Lady Whistledown”.
We all have Lady Whistledown inside of us.
Hiding your true authentic self to fit in cheats people out of ever knowing how fantastic you are and what you can achieve.
Penelope Featherington changed Bridgertons society from the inside out, proving women need to stand up for themselves and own their power.
You become what you think.
Take a leaf out of Penelopes book.
Stop hiding behind the fence, wondering what it’s like on the other side.
Show up for yourself continuously, be proud of who you are, and as for your dreams? DREAM BIGGER.
I look forward to seeing you show up for yourself and being your true self.
See you in the next edition of The Mindset Marvels.
Yours truly,
Lady Whistledown
